Wednesday, July 2, 2014 – Beware When You Compare, It’s Not Smart For Your Heart!!

Today was another beautiful sunny day at Camp Sunrise.  After the excitement of our late night fireworks last night we skipped our morning march and flag raising in favour of a little extra sleep.  

Following breakfast we headed to chapel where we learned about King Saul’s jealousy of David and talked about jealousy in our lives.  We learned that jealousy happens when we look at others and ourselves with our own eyes instead of through God’s eyes.  The bible says that God made us all perfect.  We shouldn't compare ourselves to others, instead we should learn to love ourselves just the way God made us.  Our memory verse for today was Psalm 139:14 "I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well."

The afternoon was filled with classes, cabin devotions and recreational activities.  Be sure to ask your kids about all the fun stuff they did this week!  We ended the day off with a campfire and cabin skits.  Lots of fun surprises!

Tuesday, July 1, 2014 - When Fear Starts to Rise, Refocus Your Eyes

Happy Canada Day!!!!

What a day to be at Camp Sunrise!  It is sunny and hot and we celebrated Canada's birthday with an afternoon carnival!   Everyone is getting into the groove of their classes and making new friendships. We ended our celebrations with a movie & popcorn followed by a great fireworks display.

Today in chapel we talked about the story of David and Goliath.  When David could have been very scared of Goliath, he instead chose to focus on God who gave him courage to fight the battle.  Our compass point today was "When fear starts to rise, refocus your eyes".  We talked about different scenarios in life that may be challenging or scary and how it's important to trust God to help us do what he has called us to do.  Our memory verse today was Deuteronomy 31:6 "Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or terrified for the Lord your God goes with you.  He will never leave you or forsake you".

Monday, June 30, 2014 - A Willing Heart Is Where You Start!

This week in chapel we are learning about David and what lessons we can learn from his life to apply to our own.  We are being led through these sessions by "Brother Bill" and "Sister Jessica" as well as some very entertaining knights.  The lesson from today was that A Willing Heart Is Where You Start and our memory verse was 1 Samuel 16:7b "The Lord does not see as man sees.  Man looks at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart".

The day was filled with performing arts classes, electives, some free time and we wrapped it all up with a campfire.

JPAC 2014 has officially begun!

Hello!   JPAC 2014 got off to an amazing start yesterday with our campers being welcomed at the ferry terminal by a faculty brass ensemble.  Once at the camp, everyone was registered and off to their cabins to make their home for the week.   We enjoyed a lovely spaghetti dinner together and were off to our first classes of the camp.   We then all shared in a worship and devotional time together before heading off to bed for the night.  Happy faces all around!

Dates for camp are different this year!! Camp will start on  Sunday June 29th and go until Saturday July 5th, with a Final program at The Salvation Army Cariboo Hill Temple in Burnaby.
