Friday, July 4, 2014 - Pride

Well, today is the final day of classes today.  Our campers are busy getting ready and are excited for the dress rehearsal performance tonight.  I hope you all are planning to attend the show tomorrow at Cariboo Hill Temple at 2:00, it's going to be great!!!

In chapel today we heard our final story of David and we learned about pride.  We learned that thinking too highly of yourself can cause you to make poor decisions.  We also learned that thinking poorly of yourself is not good either.  We need to keep our eyes on God to have a true image of ourselves.  Our memory verse for today was Philippians 2:3 "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit rather in humility, value others better than yourself".

Thursday, July 3, 2014 – All of Heaven Celebrates!!!!

Well, we’re getting close to the end of our week here at JPAC.  We were back at it bright and early this morning with our cabin parade and flag raising at 8:15am.

In chapel today we learned about forgiveness.  We heard the story of how David had a chance to take revenge on King Saul for trying to kill him.  Instead, David chose to keep his eyes on God and showed mercy, choosing to forgive Saul.  Our natural response is to seek revenge but if we keep our focus on God, we learn “Don’t go and do what ‘that’ side of you is telling you”.

Pastor Bill told the campers of Jesus’ crucifixion and what that means for us today.  He talked about an imaginary chalkboard where all of our sins, or the wrong things we do, are written down.  He explained that Jesus’ death and resurrection allows that chalkboard to be wiped clean and forgotten.  The campers were then asked as a group if anyone would like to ask Jesus to come and fill them with the Holy Spirit so they can learn to live for Him.  Many of the kids raised their hand and went forward to pray with a counselor.  We will be talking more about this decision and what it means later on this afternoon during cabin devotions.  The kids were encouraged to talk with the cabin counselors and ask lots of questions if they have any.

Following this prayer time Pastor Bill told us that the bible says that when even one person decides to live their live for Jesus, all of heaven celebrates.  How amazing!!!  We took a few minutes to join in with heaven and celebrate.  Yahoo!!!!!!

This afternoon will run as usual with classes and recreational activities.  Tonight’s big event is our campers’ talent showcase.  Stay tuned for pictures!!!!

Wednesday, July 2, 2014 – Beware When You Compare, It’s Not Smart For Your Heart!!

Today was another beautiful sunny day at Camp Sunrise.  After the excitement of our late night fireworks last night we skipped our morning march and flag raising in favour of a little extra sleep.

Following breakfast we headed to chapel where we learned about King Saul’s jealousy of David and talked about jealousy in our lives.  We learned that jealousy happens when we look at others and ourselves with our own eyes instead of through God’s eyes.  The bible says that God made us all perfect.  We shouldn't compare ourselves to others, instead we should learn to love ourselves just the way God made us.  Our memory verse for today was Psalm 139:14 "I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well."

The afternoon was filled with classes, cabin devotions and recreational activities.  Be sure to ask your kids about all the fun stuff they did this week!  We ended the day off with a campfire and cabin skits.  Lots of fun surprises!
